Huge red garnet matching pair of pears
Tuesday 3 February 2009
Although not the most prestigious nor the most expensive of all gemstones, a red garnet can nonetheless be very rare.
We've managed to cut a pair of huge red garnets, each weighing more than 70 cts! Alltogether, 145 cts of a perfectly cut and matched pair of red garnets. Each gem measures 30 x 24 x 13 mm.
Red garnets are not the rarest of garnets, by far. However, they are usually available in much smaller sizes. With larger gems one would expect red garnets to be black, which is not the case with this pair. These gems are saturated but are red.
